"Today I saw the dragon-fly
Come from the wells where he did lie.
An inner impulse rent the veil
Of his old husk: from head to tail
Came out clear plates of sapphire mail.
He dried his wings: like gauze they grew;
Thro' crofts and pastures wet with dew
A living flash of light he flew."
Back on the times when I’m still a young child, I often wonder on the grassy area at the back of our school. I always .go there at recess time away from the noisy playground of our school. I sit there quietly while enjoying the sweet smell of the pine tree being flown by the cool air. I remember, it was August that timer, the month when dragonflies, wander around showing their mighty wings. As a child with simple mind, I appreciated the dragonfly’s membranous wings and how they fly so swiftly. I tried to run after them but as I stretch my hand to grab it, I suddenly slip. Tears begun to fell from my eyes as I hold my scratched knee. The dragonflies flew away with the wind.
Seven years passed and that incident was long forgotten. Until then that I got Entomology as my subject. My curiosity about insects was aroused. Especially that of dragonflies. With the hands of time, my encounter with that mysterious creature was again repeated. My co-majors and I went to Tublay to assist the people there in making the history of their place. I placed a big smile on my face realizing that I could catch many insects for our insect collection and so, with that hidden motif in my mind, I got my killing jar ready in my back pack. When we arrived at Tublay, dismay came to me when I found no insect. Its afternoon then and my group decided to go in Poblacion, Tublay. My heart jumped with joy when dragonflies begun to welcome us on our way. We stopped by to take pictures and I took the chance to catch some butterfly. I went out with my killing jar and begun running after the creatures. Five minutes passed, but not a single dragonfly was on my killing jar. I went back to the car, with a heavy feeling and say to myself,
“God created those tiny creatures to live freely, away from the murderous hands of predators, let them live in happiness. Displaying the carefree ness of life. Let them soar with the wind and flow with the breeze. ”
